深田 宗一朗教授

1975年島根県生まれ,広島育ち。本学部卒業,本研究科博士後期課程終了。国立精神・神経医療研究センター(日本学術振興会特別研究員),本研究科,本学未来戦略機構を経て,現職。専門は筋生物学,幹細胞生物学。知を創造する研究は多くの幸せを与えてくれるので,たくさんの人を幸せにできる研究を一つでも多くしたいと思っています。

研究テーマ

筋ジストロフィー治療法の開発

我々はこれまでに,筋幹細胞の研究,ヒト症状に近い新しい筋ジストロフィーモデルマウスの樹立,病態形成細胞の同定などを行ってきました。これら独自の成果をもとに,全身の骨格筋の再生能力を増加・改善する手法の開発を目指して研究を行っています。

骨格筋の再生メカニズム

骨格筋の再生に筋幹細胞は必須ですが,他の細胞とのコミュニケーションがなければ,その機能を発揮することはできません。また,これら細胞同士のコミュニケーションは決まったタイミングで起きる必要があります。我々は,細胞・時間特異的な遺伝子改変動物の解析から,再生過程を丁寧に紐解き,巧みな細胞同士の連携から骨格筋組織が再生されるメカニズム解明を目的に研究を行っています。

可塑性の科学

骨格筋は寝たきりやギプス固定時のように使えないと萎縮します。逆に,鍛える事で肥大します。このように骨格筋は外的・内的要因によりそのサイズが変化する唯一の臓器です。この性質を可塑性と呼びます。我々は,筋肥大・筋萎縮の新規メカニズム解明を通して,革新的な治療開発につなげることを目標に研究を進めています。

筋幹細胞の維持メカニズム解明

筋幹細胞は骨格筋の維持・再生・肥大に必須の働きをします。しかし,加齢や病気などによりその数が減少し,骨格筋の再生能などが低下します。我々は,そもそもどうやって筋幹細胞が骨格筋の中で維持されるのかを追究しています。これがわかれば,加齢によって筋幹細胞の数や機能が低下していく理由もわかり,対処法にもつながります。
