Research theme

Development of a new grid for cryo-electron microscopy

Graphene oxide can be used as a support film for the TEM grid used in the cryo-electron microscope under development. In recent years, single particle analysis using a cryo-electron microscope has attracted a great deal of attention, but protein localization and orientation bias have become issues in the conventional analysis using a grid that supports a carbon film. We are working on the development of graphene oxide with added functionality by applying an oxygen functional group introduction method based on photoactivation into chlorine dioxide.
