From pharmaceutical researcher on the frontlines
to advanced expert clinical pharmacists


The Osaka University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers two courses: a 4-year Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences course, and a 6-year Department of Pharmacy course. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is for persons wishing to become researchers with a broad range of knowledge in the pharmaceutical field. The Department of Pharmacy course is for persons aiming to become medication experts with an advanced level of professional knowledge. This system allows students studying pharmacy to create an image of themselves in the future and efficiently concentrate their learning and research in order to achieve it.

Goals of the department

Development of persons who, based on a broad range of knowledge, can be active in the future as pharmaceutical researchers in pharmaceutical companies or elsewhere on the frontlines of research
Development of persons who will ambitiously tackle global-scale environmental problems with a broad range of knowledge in the pharmaceutical field, a strong foundation of humanity, and a sense of ethics
Development of persons who will be involved in government medical pharmaceutical administration at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare or in government health organizations, and who will work as instructors in university pharmaceutical education

Paths after graduation

Nearly all graduates of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences advance to graduate school. The following are potential paths following the completion of graduate school.

  • Pharmacy academic staff at national and private universities
  • R&D positions at pharmaceutical companies
  • Research positions at universities and national research centers
  • Government administrative positions involved with public health
  • R&D positions at food and chemical companies
  • Staff at the Japan Patent Office

    Development of medical pharmaceutical practitioners with practical abilities in clinical fields and with a well-developed researcher spirit
    Development of management-candidate pharmacists aiming to become advanced experts who should be responsible for cutting-edge medical care.
