Through not only the courses and exercises at the university, but also through collaboration with a variety of external organizations and programs, the Osaka University Graduate School and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is creating a system of support and cooperation to nurture persons who can be expert not only in the field of next generation of pharmaceutical sciences but in all fields related to health care.
Center for Drug Discovery, Design, and Development, Osaka University

Osaka has been a “Town of Drug” from ancient times, and now many pharmaceutical companies in Osaka area are struggling to develop new drugs. Center for Drug Discovery, Design, and Development in Osaka University promotes efficient and practical research to discover new drugs in strong collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, through projects such as “Platform for Drug Discovery, Informatics, and Structural Life Science”. Our Center hopes to contribute to the creation of new drugs originated from academia, by constructing an environment which covers drug discovery, design, and development seamlessly.

Life Science Young Independent Researcher Support Program

This program supports the independence of the young researchers who will be in charge of the next generation of research. Based on the activities in the world-leading life sciences research field at Osaka University, this program employs young researchers as specially appointed associate professors in cooperation with six affiliated departments. With complete independence waiting just ahead of them, the employed researchers are positioned as apprentices, and provided with an environment where they can carry out research on independent subjects. So that the researchers are not isolated, expert instruction and support is also available to them.

Cancer Professional Training Plan

Osaka University presents "Cancer Professionals Training Plan" in collaboration with five universities in the Kinki area, making the best use of the features of each university. There are three courses in it: Training Course for the Cancer Specialist Physician, Training Course for the Health Care Professional about Cancer, and the Intensive Course, allowing students to acquire the knowledge needed for their future objective. The goal of this program is to make good progress on cancer care in not only the region but also Japan by bringing up cancer specialist physicians and cancer professionals with high specialty in each field.

Drug Discovery Training Program

The Osaka University Drug Discovery training program is an attempt to accurately identify the needs of the current age and to promote a new specialist and multidisciplinary type of training program. Based on the idea that it is an important mission of university education to produce persons who are capable of accurately meeting society's needs, the program aims to develop top-quality researchers who can be active on the frontlines of drug discovery utilizing the most advanced technologies. For this purpose, the program combines Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences education and training for pharmaceutical researchers with cutting-edge imaging education for medicine and health science majors.

High-quality University Education Program

Pharmacist "Career Up" lectures

In recent years, there is a strong demand for pharmacist to have deeper special knowledge and skills because of rapid advances in medicine and the growing demand for pharmaceutical care. Beside it is demonstrated that the team-based care improve medical outcome. Pharmacists are expected to play major roles as a member of various multidisciplinary teams. We have prepared the "Advanced Specialized Pharmacy Education System" as a curriculum where students can acquire the latest knowledge and skills.

Systematic Graduate School Education Innovation Program
(development of health and environment risk management experts)

In close cooperation with GLOCOL and other education and research organizations operating overseas, this program aims to make environmental pharmaceuticasl sciences education more advanced, practical, and international, so that the field of pharmaceutical sciences can contribute to meeting the diversifying health needs of society. Based on environmental pharmaceutical sciences grounded in toxicology, health chemistry (preventive pharmaceutical sciences), public health science, and analytical chemistry, the program aims to produce advanced experts in risk management of health and environment who can ensure the safety and security of our food and environment, and who can also lead accurate efforts to prevent infectious diseases.

Joint development of a practical advanced training program
for producing leading pharmacists

In order to produce leading pharmacists who are capable not only of correctly using pharmaceuticals in the health care field, but also of accurately meeting the expanding societal needs of Japanese citizens and fulfilling leadership roles in a broad range of professional fields, Osaka University is engaged in joint development with 14 university schools of pharmaceutical sciences nationwide in order to create four training programs for pharmacist training in the higher years of the six-year department course. These four programs are the following: 1. Practical medical pharmacy training program, 2. Long-term issue research and advanced training program, 3. SP training and PBL tutorial training program, 4. Training evaluation methods program.
